I am TerriBlue, the self proclaimed Goddess of Go. I hope to interest you in this amazing Asian board game, which is infinitely simple, yet infinitely complex, not unlike myself.
The best online go tutorial I have found is The Interactive Way to Go. This is a "must read" before you attempt to play on line.
Download IgoWin the free 9"x 9" version of the game by David Fotland the creator of Many Faces of Go for an offline go opponent which will estimate your go strength. These estimates on the high side, so don't be disappointed when you face a real life opponent.
I first learned about the game of Go at a party when I was a teenager. I was immediately fascinated, but unfortunately could find no one to play with. The next 25 years or so served as a frustrating lesson in futility as I taught everyone I knew how to play only to have them give up the game after one or two attempts.
In 1995 I discovered that I could play Go on the internet at IGS and NNGS. A whole new world opened up for me as I discovered that there were others who loved the game as much as I. I renewed my membership in the American Go Association and started to play Go with a passion on line.
I attended my first go workshop with Yang Yilun in June of 1997 even before attending my first tournament. Now I help organize one each July in New Jersey. You can see the pictures I took at the 1999 NJ Yang Go Workshop.
My first tournament was the U.S. Open at the Lancaster Go Congress in 1997, at which I was overrated and as a result went 1 and 5 to earn a rating of -19.6. Since then I have attended every Go Congress and many tournaments and have raised my rank to -13.0.
I am the founder of an official chapter of the AGA called The Wings Across Calm Water Go Club. If you are a member of the AGA, but do not yet have club affiliation, consider joining my virtual club. Our official club meeting night is Wednesday when we meet at 8:00 pm EST (-5 GMT) on the KGS go server.
The face of go on the internet has changed a lot with the recent advent of easily accessible servers such as The Internet Gaming Zone and Yahoo. You can find me most evenings on the Zone playing as goddess_of_go, and logged on to KGS from time to time.
From August of 2000 until August of 2002 I wrote a column for the ejournal of the AGA. These articles are archived at the British Go Association web site. If you are not already receiving the ejournal you can subscribe for free even if you are not an AGA member.
In January of 1998 I started taking lessons Yang Yilun 7p. Mr. Yang teaches go on The Internet Go Server and on the Kiseido Go Server. If you would like to learn more about taking lessons with Mr. Yang you can email him directly at yanggo@earthlink.net. Be sure to tell him the goddess sent you.
